In these films, you won't find sexual content, drug use or inappropriate/vulgar language. Violence is normally kept to a minimum, however short unaggressive fight scenes are generally common.
Also, some characters may be put in a dangerous situation, but will usually be resolved quickly & safely. As for weapons such as a knife or gun, Antagonists may wield one, but this will not be stressed at all as the protagonist is unlikely to carry a weapon or use any means of violence. |
PG stands for Parental Guidance, meaning that the film may contain some scenes that could be considered unsuitable for children. It is then left to the parents to decide if the film is appropriate for their children to watch or not, hence the name Parental Guidance. These films will also sometimes address themes such as bullying and racism. As for inappropriate/vulgar language, you might hear "Shit" & "Bitch", but even this would be rather unlikely. You wont see any sexual content , however references or jokes might be made as a comedic factor for older viewers.
As far as violence goes, only scraps and fights on a small scale will be featured, with blood injures having not much detail. There can be some antisocial behaviour that might be picked up by & copied by children, however these kinds of things will not be promoted at all. There will be no actual drug use, however there could be small references or anti-drug messages for younger viewers. |
12A Is basically a film containing themes and topics that might be inappropriate for the younger audience including heavier violence more bad language like fuck and more exposure to sensitive topics like racism and sex however it would be made very brief and very discreet for the younger viewers. The A in 12A means adult so if a movie has the mark then it means an adult must accompany the child watching it to see if they approve of the child watching the film almost like PG. A 12 is very similar however its the next level down so everything from the violence bad language and sensitive themes has all been toned down to the point where the viewer can watch without the approval of an adult.
Like most of these age ratings and bad and inappropriate behaviour is not encouraged or endorsed in any way whatsoever. It is at this point when you will start seeing horror films however the gore and violence will be at a minimum and the psychological side of the film won't be too much for the audience to handle so any 12 or 12A horror film will be fairly easy for most of the viewers as it won't be very disturbing. As for violence there may be parts of the film that have gore but they will not dwell on it for very long the same goes for blood and injures. |
A 15 is only suitable for viewers age 15 or over as there is a very big increase in the content that might be considered unsuitable for the younger viewers. In 15s there is more strong violence, drug reference and use, nudity, sex and discrimination. Some of these topics can sometimes be considered controversial depending on the audience.
There is a lot of worry with these films because of the increase in all of the more mature themes like drug use and more violence the last thing the filmmakers want is the people watching it to copy it as this will come back to the makers of the film and leave them with a very bad reputation and that can be very bad for business. |
